Elements
All About Elements
Elements are the simplest and purest forms of matter, consisting of only one type of atom. There are 118 known elements, each with a unique number of protons in its nucleus. The periodic table is a chart that organizes these elements by their properties and atomic structure. Elements can be classified as metals, nonmetals, or metalloids based on their physical and chemical properties. Metals are typically good conductors of heat and electricity and are often malleable and ductile. Nonmetals, on the other hand, are typically poor conductors and are often brittle and non-malleable. Metalloids have properties of both metals and nonmetals. Elements can combine with each other to form compounds, and these compounds can have different properties than the elements that make them up. The study of elements and their properties is called chemistry, and it has helped scientists understand the world around us and develop new technologies and materials.
